Barrio China

Description
After Peruvian slavery was abolished Chinese came into Peru by the hundreds on boats and became the “new slaves”. The red sun is a representation of the Japanese sun/flag but inside it is a Chinese coin. The coin was issued by Chinese immigrants in observance of the 100th anniversary of independence. The design in the coin is the coat of arms for Peru and the coat of arms for China. The red structure is the gate entrance from Barrio Chino in Lima, the dragon is from a parade that celebrates Asian heritage, the white flowers are Mogra - the national flower of the Philippines, and the woman is from a famous Chinese and Peruvian restaurant called Kion. A design collaboration with Brooklyn Warmi.
